About the Author

Alfred Tom Overstreet was saved at the age of 23 in an Assembly of God Church in the saw mill/logging community of Hayfork, California. Soon after he was converted God filled him with the Holy Ghost and called him to preach. He then attended Bethany Bible College where he studied theology and graduated with a B.A. in English Bible. He met his wife, Deanna, in college and they were married one year later when she graduated. While studying at Bethany Bible College he came across a copy of Finney's Lectures on Systematic Theology and through it realized that the doctrine of original sin was false. The author's book ARE MEN BORN SINNERS? has its roots in his reading of Finney's Lectures on Systematic Theology.

Tom and his wife served eight years as missionaries in Mexico, where they established a mother church in Guadalajara, Jalisco; and also helped establish a small church in the village of Camichines, Jalisco. He had little success in reaching souls for Christ in the small church he pastored in the city of Guadalajara. It was later, when he went to the state of Vera Cruz, and preached in open air campaigns and tent meetings, that he saw the Lord bless his ministry. God gave the increase to the ministry, and the converts in turn went out and preached the gospel. Today there are at least five churches that have grown from those first open air campaigns.

The Overstreets returned to the United States where they both taught elementary school. Deanna taught 13 years in an Assembly of God Christian School, and Tom taught five years in public education, most of those years as a Biligual Resource Teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School in Compton, California. Tom and Deanna have two children and six grand children.

Tom now devotes his time to writing on the great Christian doctrines of the Bible--those doctrines of the Bible that promote faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and Christian obedience and holiness. In his most recent visit to Mexico, he taught a three month course on theology and hermeneutics in a Bible school for ministers. He is an evangelist and teacher and is available to preach wherever he is called. He can be reached by mail, phone, or e-mail:
